Becoming a Winning Poker Player

Becoming a winning poker player is not a very easy task. Poker takes a lot of experience and practice before you can develop into the type of player that consistently wins at the game. That is what makes it such a great accomplishment to be a winning poker player. It takes a lot of hard work and discipline but it can be done.

To start off there is a lot of loss and mistakes that will be made for a new poker player. There is just so much to know about that it couldn’t possibly be done by someone just starting off in the game. That is why it is so easy for those of us to make money playing poker on a specific night. Sometimes we get lucky enough to play against a bunch of newbie’s.

Step 1

The first step to become a winning poker player is to understand that it takes time. It isn’t going to happen over night and it is okay that you are not winning right now. In order to become a great player you have to make mistakes and learn from them. If you are not learning from your mistakes you are wasting your time losing money. Every hand lost is worth it if you learned from it.

Step 2

The next thing you must do is monitor your weaknesses and figure out what you are doing wrong. You cannot learn what you are doing wrong unless you monitor your weaknesses and fix them.

Step 3

Develop an aggressive style of play. I will touch a lot on the aggressive poker style in the future and why it is better then any other style of play. Just trust me that aggressive poker is winning poker.

Step 4

Track everything you do. You should literally keep track of everything you do. The time you start playing, the time you finish playing, how much you bought in with (how many times), how much you ended up with, how much you walked in with, what limits you played, how many players, your mood, your surroundings and every possible other thing you can think of.

Step 5

Continue to strive to get better. No poker player is as good as they can be; there is always room for improvement. Always remember that you can always get better.

Becoming a winning poker takes a lot of time and effort that pays off in the end. You cannot lie to yourself either. Your stats will not lie; if you are not profiting consistently then you are not a winning poker player. Even if you are a winning player; you should ask yourself how you can become a better winning poker player.
